Many individuals know that Abraham Lincoln was the 16th US President and that he was President at the start of the Civil War. Many people know that John Wilkes Booth was the man who assassinated President Lincoln at the Ford Theatre in Washington, DC. We know that President Lincoln was the main reason that slavery ended during the Civil War. But, there are some interesting facts, that you may not know about the 16th US President.

You may not know that President Lincoln was not originally from Springfield, Illinois, but he was actually born in Hardin, Kentucky. Abraham Lincoln spent his young formative years in Hardin, Kentucky. Unlike many of the other US Presidents, President Lincoln was not given a middle name when he was born. Abraham Lincoln did not like to go fishing or hunting with his father because he did not like killing animals. Mr. Lincoln’s father considered him very “lazy” because he did not like to fish or hunt. Even though, Abraham was a successful lawyer in Illinois, he did not have formal education or attend law school. Mr. Abraham Lincoln did an apprenticeship with a lawyer. After completing his apprenticeship with the lawyer, he become barred as an attorney with the State Bar of Illinois. Mr. Lincoln’s first love interest was not his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, but a young lady named Ann Rutledge, who died at a young age.

Here is a very interesting fact that you may not have known about President Lincoln, his only son who made it to adulthood, Robert Lincoln, life was saved by Edwin Booth. Edwin Booth was the brother of John Wilkes Booth, the man who assassinated President Lincoln. Mr. Edwin Booth saved Robert Lincoln’s life by pushing him out the way of a moving carriage. Mr. Lincoln was one of the most disorganized lawyers out there and his law office always looked a mess. Before becoming the President of USA, Lincoln only served one term in the House of Representatives from 1846 to 1848. Also, before marrying Mary Todd, Lincoln was engaged to another woman named Mary Owens. So, Mary Todd Lincoln, was his third love interest. Another, fun fact about President Lincoln is that he had registered and obtained a patent for one of his inventions. But, no other US President, in American history has a patent for an invention.

President Lincoln is the only US President in history where the United States was divided between North and South. This caused the United States of America to fight amongst itself. Mr. Lincoln did not really want to end slavery, but he felt that it was the only way to end the Civil War.
